3 hours and 45 minutes in a train from Pori to Helsinki and this is the result.
I took the old lume-engine 3d algorithm, optimized (removed z-sort and use of arrays) and goofy around with it. 8000 3d particles with unique color and bitmapdata runs pretty smooth at least on my 2.4ghz duo and flashplayer 10.
